Forum log-in help

You can't log in after updating the E-mail address in your profile:

When you update your E-mail address a confirmation E-mail will be sent to the new address to verify that it's valid. All you need to do is click on the link in that E-mail and you're done. If you don't go through the verification process you won't be able to access the private forums. If you use spam filtering make sure to add Emerycrew.org to your safe list or you might never receive the confirmation.

You log in using the AOL browser are redirected back to the log in page:

The problem is the AOL servers combined with their software. When you request a webpage, your computer's IP address is sent to the server and that is used partially in identification. Most computers send a single IP address, which they receive when they connect to the Internet, for a single connection session. AOL does it differently.

AOL's software uses a caching proxy server that changes your IP address with every page access even in a single session. Because of this, the user's vBulletin session is invalidated and they are forced to log in again.

There are two ways around this...
1) Make sure the "remember me" check box is checked when you log in. This will write your user ID and password to the cookie so you will log in invisibly on every page.

2) Use an external browser (i.e, Internet Explorer, Netscape) to access the Whinery. While these use AOL's connection to the Internet they bypass the internal caching proxy and therefore operate like a regular ISP. All OSes come with at least one browser pre-installed so additional software will not be needed on your part. AOL actually requires Internet Explorer to be installed for its software to work.

3) Get a real internet provider (just kidding.......well, sort of)

Using Internet Explorer and you have to repeatedly log in while browsing forums:

To fix this in Internet Explorer go to Internet options by selecting the tools menu, then "Internet Options".
1) On the Internet options page select the privacy tab.
2) On the privacy tab click on the advanced button.
3) On the advanced privacy page check the box next to "override automatic cookie handling"
4) Then check the box next to "always allow session cookies"

Still can't log in?:

Try clearing your cookies by clicking on this link

If you still can't log in: all I can suggest is to delete your temporary internet files (aka clear your cache) and try restarting your computer. You can also E-mail me with a detailed explanation of the problem you are experiencing to include your user name and password typed EXACTLY as you are entering them.
